Her Spiritual Journey
I always looked up to her. She was a woman of stalwart faith and unwavering belief who had set a wonderful example for all the years of my life. Then came the time her journey of faith would end.
It was a hard time and we were always close by her bed for fear of missing a moment of her quickly wanning life.
It was in one of those times she whispered to me, “You won’t believe . . . what I have just learned.”
“What’s that, Mom?” I leaned in close to catch the feeble words.
She closed her eyes and I thought she had drifted back into that place of solitude only the dying have access to, but after a few moments she opened her eyes and continued. “So beautiful . . . . Did you know . . . we’re all the same height?”
She sensed my confusion and reached to hold my hand. “With God . . . . no giants . . . all the same.” She smiled and closed her eyes again.
“Oh, Mamma!” I whispered as tears flowed down my cheeks. “You are a giant and I love you so much!”
A few days later her physical journey on earth ended, but I’m sure that her spiritual journey has taken her to new heights and places yet unknown to me. I miss her. But, I will always remember those last few days of her life when she was still learning and growing on her marvelous journey of faith.
